Priorities

My priorities for;

Rideau-Rockcliffe Ward include:

  • Safety on all our streets.

    • Improve pedestrian safety with emphasis on accessibility, including access to transit, crosswalks and maintained sidewalks.
    • Have a strong working relationship with the Community Constabulary to ensure that vehicule and house break-ins are dealt with in a proactive manner to protect our neighbourhoods.
    • Take a strong stance against violence in our community.
    • Expand the Post-Incident Neighbourhood Support Network to connect residents, community organisations, and associations with timely and appropriate communication and a plan of action.
  • Improve transit connections & reliability.

    • Ensure easy connection to transit hub stations once the LRT begins operation.
    • Accessible, and affordable, public transit for all residents.
    • Schedules and local routes, especially in the winter time, that people can rely on.
    • Fewer cancelled or “no show” buses, and better all day service to all neighbourhoods to help reduce overcrowding.
  • Support and execution of the Rideau Hub.

    • Ensure the Rideau Hub is executed properly to serve and respond to residents’ needs, offer programming services, and integrated community resources that enhance the livability of the ward.
    • Have access to healthy food programs.
    • Facilitate social inclusion for youth, families and our seniors.
    • Offer guidance on affordable housing programs.
    • Offer opportunities for physical activity and active transportation.
    • Help create healthy and sustainable physical environments.
    • Create access to employment opportunities for all residents.
  • Improved communication.

    • A minimum of 4 physical newsletters each year.
    • Pop-up office hours throughout each neighbourhood in the ward to allow all residents access.
    • Ongoing electronic & social media updates on important ward issues and resident outreach.
    • Ensure YOU are informed about issues that impact YOUR neighbourhood, and bringing YOUR voice to the table at City Hall.  

 

Neighbourhood Priorities *In alphabetical order*

Carson Grove:

  • Continue to support Carson House and its community programming with Ottawa Public Housing and Rideau-Rockcliffe Community Resource Center.

Cardinal Glen:

  • Use all resources available to create more traffic calming measures throughout the area, especially given the rise in small families in the area.
  • Road and path infrastructure care & renewal.

Castle Heights:

  • Advocate for the long-overdue improvement to the St. Laurent Community Center to ensure services and community programs remain relevant and are sufficiently funded.
  • Ensure the Rideau Hub is executed properly to serve and respond to residents’ needs, offer programming services, and integrated community resources that enhance the livability of the ward.

Lindenlea:

  • Ensure an amazing 100 year celebration for the neighbourhood!
  • Beechwood Renewal. I want to see Beechwood renewed as the traditional main street. With a focus on safety, accessibility, local businesses and family friendliness. Beginning with public outreach, so all residents can contribute to this vision.
  • Continue to support the community strength and steward their community activism and outreach.  

Manor Park:

  • Create a sphere of safety around the schools with traffic calming and community outreach.
  • Be a steward of our mature neighbourhood.
  • Improve transit connections and reliability for the neighbourhood

New Edinburgh:

  • Beautifying the park after the CSST is complete with locally sourced Art in the Park installations.
  • Better plan for Beechwood. I want to see Beechwood renewed as the traditional main street. With a focus on safety, accessibility, local businesses and family friendliness. Beginning with public outreach, so all residents can contribute to this vision.
  • Use all resources available to create additional traffic calming measures throughout the area.
  • As a former alumni, I support the goals and mandate of the Crichton Community Council (the 3Cs).

Overbrook:

  • Support the expansion of the anti-poverty child initiative to the Rideau Hub, which is operated by the Rideau Rockcliffe Community Resource Center.    
  • Would expand the post-incident report model to ensure that appropriate and timely communication is provided to residents & community associations.
  • I would support community initiatives that encourage food security and dignity for all people.

Rockcliffe:

  • I will take a stand to protect the heritage designation of the Rockcliffe Village and maintain its uniques characteristics.
  • Ensure the conservation and ongoing protection of The Pond.
  • Use all resources available to create additional traffic calming measures throughout the area, and reduce commuter cut-through.

Thorncliffe Village:

  • Work with the community association to see the realisation of a community garden.
  • Use all resources available to create more traffic calming measures surrounding the park, including the community crosswalk art project.

Wateridge Village:

  • Advocate that the development stays true to the original vision of the Public Advisory Group - without compromising on the livability, traffic flow and the low environmental impact that you deserve.  
  • Ensure full day transit service.
  • Serve as a strong advocate for active transportation models, including priority for bike lanes.
  • Work with the community association to see the realisation of a community garden.

Additional Priorities

SENIORS: Dignity for all.  

  • Work towards an age friendly main street on Beechwood Avenue beginning with a accessibility audit.
  • Better communication about resources and programs available to seniors such as accessible housing, independence services, financial planning and support.
  • Act as a connector between the residents and government programs to ensure a healthy, sustainable quality of life for all of our seniors.
  • Use physical newsletters to reach every mailbox & home.

ANTI-POVERTY INITIATIVES: As every person matters.

  • Supporting anti-poverty and child initiative that is driven by the Rideau Rockcliffe Community Resource Center (RRCRC).
  • Support the Rideau Hub and RRCRC as a better location for the community it needs to support.
  • Would expand the post-incident report model to ensure that appropriately and timely communication is provided to residents & community associations.
  • I would support community initiatives that encourage food security and dignity of all person.

INCLUSIVITY: Because we are truly Better Together!

  • Ensure that priorities are considered through a gender, cultural and accessible lens.
  • I will always be willing to do the right thing for the long term vision of the City and our community.
  • Work with community partners to design a city that is truly for everyone.
  • Continue recognizing that people need to be heard and empowered.
